Carrie Cates is an independent film and commercial producer and production designer. Since moving from the Hoosier state to Austin, TX she has produced 4 feature length films and quite a few award winning shorts. She has worked on everything from commercials (Indian Motorcycles, RAM Trucks, IBM, Instagram, Ozarka, Academy Sports, and more) to music videos (Devendra Banhart, Paul Cauthen, Hayden Pedigo…), but her heart really is tangled up in the horror genre. She has produced a number of horror flicks with her husband, Kyle Cates (director + score composer @KACMusic), and they have a horror podcast called The Scary Movie List show (@scarymovielistshow) where they talk about all kinds of scary flicks. She was a long-time film educator, and in 2013, she founded a youth film festival for junior high and high school students in Central Texas, the Austin Youth Film Festival. She co-founded the non-profit organization, the Alliance for Young Future Filmmakers that put on the festival each year. A woman of many projects, she was Lake Travis Film Festival's Head Programmer for three years. She’s a self-proclaimed collaboration enthusiast, and is always looking for new ways to bridge communication gaps in production efficiency. Needless to say, she is incredibly supportive and involved in the Austin film scene, and enthusiastic about sharing her passion for the medium.
